Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP)
Promotes collagen production, regenerates tissue, and tightens skin

Centrifuge for Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy
Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy—also known as PRP—is on the cutting edge of regenerative therapies and is quickly becoming one of our favorite anti-aging treatments.
PRP initially gained recognition for being used to treat pain and accelerate healing in injured tissue and joints. Many professional athletes have been benefitting for years from PRP, and it wasn’t long before dermatologists starting using this therapy to turn back the hands of time and bring back that youthful glow. PRP utilizes your own body’s healing ability to stimulate skin recovery and boost collagen production—what’s better than that?
PRP can treat anything from fine lines and sun damage to deep wrinkles and acne scarring. It requires a simple blood draw from the arm and uses a centrifuge to separate the platelets into platelet rich plasma. Here at Manhattan Dermatology we use PRP as a topical treatment in conjunction with Microneedling and IPL—and, for a more aggressive approach, with Fraxel Dual skin resurfacing. We’ve seen some amazing results!
Downtime: Varies depending on procedure. Initial redness will occur in the treatment area and can last anywhere from 2-4 days (or more with Fraxel). Some patients heal in as little as 24 hours. Type of treatment is dictated by what condition we are treating. For instance, acne scars and deep wrinkles may experience more downtime.
Procedure time: Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy takes about 30-45 minutes depending on which areas are treated. We generally apply numbing cream prior to minimize any discomfort.
